Yay! We're home! What is it about vacations that make your more tired than before you left?
With a week of sketchy cell coverage and no internet, I'm feeling technologically deprived! I have several posts I've written in my head that I'll be publishing in the next few days but, tonight I'd like to share with you the one thing I came away with from my vacation...
I'm going to stop worrying about when he's hitting milestones, whether he's "textbook" or how he compares to others. Unless a doctor tells me to worry or my gut tells me something...I'm going to focus on raising a child that is respectful, helpful and a good person.
(Can you tell that I spent the week with some children who are allowed to talk back?)

I hear you! I figure he'll develop when he develops. I'm not interested in engaging in "mom-petition" over who has the smartest kid - all I really want is for him to be well-behaved and respectful of others both at home and in public. I think *that* shows who has the better kid!

i can't stand the "my kid's better than your kid" moms. i know louise will do everything in her own way and her own time, i'm sure your son will meet his milestones just fine too :)
ReplyDeleteI love my nieces/nephews...really I do! But, after a week with them in such close quarters, I realized just how much I wished they would act like they had some sense. As a teacher, I see a lot of misbehavior and you always wonder exactly how it's handled at home. Watching them get away with so much and being so disrespectful (all are under age 7 btw), made me realize how easy it is for intelligent, well-meaning, "there for them" parents to let it get out of control.
