Ahead of the curve

While I spend a long time finding time to compose the last post (and actually publishing), positive things have been going on around here!

Saturday, PS rolled over belly to back!!!! She adores being on her side--often using her legs to squish herself up into a fetal position from her back while sleeping--so I have been trying to get her as much tummy time as possible because I want her to have strong (un-crooked!) neck muscles in case she gets over onto her stomach before she really can control it and end up on her face.  And--using her awesome head control to lean herself over, she rolled right over onto her back!! I, of course, flipped her back after celebrating and had her do it again :-)

I immediately wanted to find out when LM did it--so I went to check his baby book.  Turns out, that while I have lots of other things in there....this is where I eventually found the answer--in his virtual baby book of sorts! He rolled belly to back at 14weeks and she did it at 11 weeks.

So--PS is ahead of the curve in the gross motor department...at least in our household :-)

One month today (already!)

PS today you are one month old. I can't believe that we are already at a "milestone".  The last month has flown by.  It seems like just yesterday we were headed to the hospital to have you.

You cry...a lot. And so do I. But, we're learning how to move along through the day.

You like to eat, though you're learning how to stretch it out (at least at night) from the near constant feedings you did at the beginning. During the day you eat every 2-3 hours (unless you are taking a monster nap) and usually start off the night with a good 3-4 hour stretch followed up with 2-3 hours again.  You're not committed to a long feed...you either eat fast and furious or snack a bit and fall asleep. But, you appear to be growing (or I'm just shrinking your newborn sized clothes from all of the washings) so it's all good :-)

You are trying to life your head up and move it side to side. We'll start more tummy time soon but you are already trying to move your body. You like to pull your arms/upper body so you roll on your side a bit--you love sleeping that way but only get to when we're watching closely. I wish I could trust that you'd be safe that way and not roll onto your face...because I'm sure that you'd sleep better that way!

You're starting to have longer alert stretches where you stare at us like we're a weird marvel. You like looking at the flowers/butterflies on the wall above your changing table and the mirror on your swing mobile. I'm not sure how much you actually see of everything, but you're starting to like looking. Sometimes these alert stretches keep you up from taking a nap at the right time and you get overtired, becoming our Princess Fussypants. We're working on how to figure out this nap thing...since we didn't quite get it right the first time around!!

You have a temper and let it be known when you're not happy. It's a new experience and a harder one than I expected. We thought that since we "knew" what we were doing this time, it would be "easier".  Haha! We hope the crying thing dies down soon.

You have baby acne to put all other babies to shame. We're hoping it's not an indicator of your teenage years! You also spit up enough to put your brother to shame...and he was pretty darn impressive.  We're hoping that you'll outgrow it sooner since you seem to have better neck/body control than he did. Here's hoping!!

You are, however, amazing. You're tiny and delicate. You have a beautiful little half smile and giggle that show up in your sleep. You look just like your brother did at this age...and when you wear his hand me down jammies, it's deja vu. You love snuggling up to your daddy and are big into burrowing close to us to sleep. This makes it hard to put you down...but I miss when your brother used to do this so I'm not rushing anything.

You've changed so much in the last month. I promise to do a better job of taking your picture and video-ing you this month...no "second child" syndrome for you. I can't wait to see who you'll be in another month.

Eviction notice?

The last few days have been a bit...overwhelming to say the least.

At my OB appt on Wednesday pm, she shared with me that she would be out of town on a medical missions trip for a week (starting on my due date).  **Cue record scratch** WHAT!! Surely this is a conversation that we could've had earlier in the game??  However, I do get that she thought I would go early...and frankly, didn't have to tell me earlier.  However. HOW-EV-ER.

Anyway. She wanted me to think about whether I wanted to deliver with her sometime next week (either if PS comes on her own or schedule an induction) or if I wanted to deliver with whoever was on-call in the practice when she actually decides to come.  Stressful. Because we all know how much I am a SUPER decision maker--no wavering at all from lil ole me.

I told her I'd talk about with TH and call back.  In the time I had between when I talked to him and when I left the office, I let myself get excited about the idea of knowing when she was coming, being able to have a good plan in place for LM, getting to deliver with my OB etc.

Then, I talked to TH. He freaked a bit (to put it mildly). Suddenly, (as men tend to be) he became an expert in all of the science and experiences of induction---finding only the risks, horror stories, c-section numbers etc when he researched online. I tried to explain to him that I'm already 2-2.5cm dilated, 50% effaced and PS is super low already...so, it's not like the inductions where everything is still closed up like Ft. Kn.ox.

Long story short, we went round and round about it. I ended up scheduling an appt on Monday to a)keep my weekly appt with my OB/cervical check etc and b) have a chance to talk more with her about the whole thing.

I had resigned myself to the idea that I should let her come when she comes. But, the nagging little thing in the back of my head kept telling me how much I really wanted to deliver with my OB. I know her, trust her and when I'm a hot, drugged mess--I need to know that when she says we need to do X, I know she really means it. She's a straight shooter like that. When I delivered LM, she was out of town (he came a day early) and another doctor in the practice delivered him. It was fine--the nurses do most of the work until the end anyway. But--there was a moment when she said his heart rate was dropping with every contraction and we may need to use the vacuum or perhaps a c-section if he didn't start recovering. TH and I panicked because that wasn't what we were expecting to here at all. We chose to try giving me more O2 to see if that would help things---and it did, all other things were averted. However, it's always bothered me that if push had come to shove (no pun intended), I didn't really know her to know whether she was a quick to intervention/c-section doctor or only rec'd them at the last resort. But--I do know my OB and know her style. And I wouldn't have to question her.

So--today I called in and scheduled an induction for this coming Thursday (10-11-12). Squee! I'm just waiting to here back from the OB office that it is confirmed with the hospital (it's a popular date). Now, I'm not willing to do Friday since the idea of labor going long enough that my OB has to leave and not deliver her anyway would defeat the purpose. Wednesday seems a bit early to me (3 days before my edd). SO--if it won't work then, I'll take it as a sign that we wait for her to come as she pleases.

Until then...we wait for the phone call, wait to see if labor starts on its own (my goal is to do a lot of walking this week), waiting for our little pumpkin seed to arrive.

Home Again, Home Again

Today is Day 2 of my maternity leave (the two weeks prior to EDD that my OB wanted me to take in case I go all super swollen, sponge.bob-square-feet again. Yesterday I was super productive--ran errands, did laundry, hung up LM's clothes for the next size up, cleaned up the kitchen etc.

Today...well...its rainy and I'm sleepy so I've done a little here and there around the house. It's going to be hard to not fall into a pattern of laziness. I'm feeling ok...PS is all up in my rib cage so I only feel comfortable in certain positions. Maybe she'll be long since she's apparently super low and dropped too. I've been battling swelling when I eat anything with a slightly more than normal amount of sodium. Friday we did Chinese food for a farewell lunch at work and then we went to my SIL's house for tacos that night...I could feel my ankles all tight and swollen with even a little movement. So, I'm trying to be careful.

LM is still in the dark about what's happening. He can tell you where "the baby " is--he pats my stomach and he says "baby" when he sees the infant carseat next to his (two carseats squished in my backseat...talk about an overwhelming moment!!). But--cute little thing has no clue. He's been super snuggles lately but I'm not sure if that's because he's just in the mood for that or if he senses something. I'm more nervous about him being away from us for two days (my mom is staying at our house with him) than I am about the whole giving birth again thing. I'll miss him so much and I'd hate for him to be off his routine and out of sorts, only to have us add to the mix when we come home. Anyone have any baby transition tips???

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow...it'll be interesting to see how things are progressing. I was up to 2cm last week. That's where I hung around with LM until my water broke at 3cm (hit 2cm about the same time). I'm anxious to get things going but I also want to wait as long as possible.

That's about all here...the exciting stuff happens in the next couple of weeks I suppose.

Still here...still pregnant.

Barely. I'm 37weeks plus a few with a baby (that despite only being 1.5cm, 50% effaced still last Wednesday) who has dropped so low the doctor tapped her on the head (as a "visual aid" I suppose?) during my last cervical check. My back hurts so bad (from the 30lbs low on my hips and the 26lbs that has become attached to me like the little monkey he is) that I now have v.ic.o.din to take at night when it's bad (only given in once, it makes me nervous!). I now get random nerve pain and may end up going early, which I am not prepared for.

annnnndddd.....best of all---even though I stop work in four days, they have NO SUB for me still.  So I've been running around like crazy organizing, planning, organizing more, creating things to the point that whatever yahoo they find (because at this point, I don't think they have an idea who to find) should be able to teach my kids. BUT--it's stressful because I can't handle leaving my babies to someone not qualified to help them learn as much as possible.

GRR. It was so much more peaceful last time.

xxoo Time to eat a cupcake.

Eight isn't enough

Eight weeks. That's how much time (in theory) we have left until Pumpkin Seed is here. While that may seem like a LOOOONG time, and it is nearly an entire grading period, it's not enough!

I'm starting to freak out a bit about what I need to accomplish in that timeframe....oh and then chop two weeks off for when I'm planning on stopping working.

Planning. That's the key word. All this is about what I've planned to happen, when I've planned for it to happen and how I've planned for it to happen. And we all know what happens when we make our own plan. *kerpow* (that's the sound of a plan exploding).

I should know by now (after 17months of parenthood) that NOTHING goes as you plan. You make plans, your child changes them, you adapt and we all go about our merry sleep-deprived ways. But yet, I keep making plans.

It goes a little something like this...
Self (to self): "I'll stop working at the start of October, two weeks before DD just like my OB recommends. It'll be no problem getting all of the children assessed, their report cards done and come in after I start maternity leave for the big evening conferences."

Self (to self): "Umm...what about all of the other day to day school work that is growing exponentially as the school district keeps coming up with new and special things for you to do on top of everything else?"

Self (to self): "Ehh. No problem. I'll get it done. Suuure, I've got 28 students who have more issues than I realized (and realize more everyday). But, I'll get it done. Maaaybe I won't come in for conferences, but then I'll need to create a little letter for each report card talking about skills."

Self (loudly to self): "Seriously. Shut up. You're more and more exhausted as the days go by and not even sure that you'll make it until October. You have a million classroom things to do to get organized enough to leave it to someone else, NO SUB, two FULL weeks of detailed sub plans to write, regular stuff to do lesson wise, curriculum maps to update, a wild 17mo old at home that you can't lift without your back hurting but yet refuse to not pick him up AND have yet to name the baby".

Self (to self): "Oooh....I have a new idea for a neat station. I'll do that instead of working on everything else!"

Self (to self): *facepalm*

So...obviously, a bit freaked out about my lack of ability (or rather my inability) to move forward instead of side to side. I did accomplish a bit step today by finishing up my uber-detailed document of everything (procedures, day to day, etc) you need to know about my classroom. Luckily, the updating from last time didn't actually take as long as I thought. But, it's amazing what all has changed between babies. So, that should help. I plan (there's that word again!!) to make a detailed to-do list (separate from all my other to-do lists) about what needs to be accomplished before I can start my maternity leave when I get to school tomorrow. Hopefully, it's not as long as I imagine it is in my head.

And, on top of it all, I've got to start taking it easy. I'm feeling worn down, beaten down and scared that I'm being too hard on my body. I just can't leave all of those other people's babies left unattended for 9+ weeks without knowing they'll be in good hands, with everything they need to succeed. And I can't not spend tons of time playing with my baby..even if that means being on the floor with him, picking him up when he looks at me with a cute little smile and says "uppa" with his arms raised etc. I need my list to help organize me. And make me accountable.

Perhaps, I'll post it on here someday and you all can help make me accountable as well.

No more procrastinating...work to be done!

Still here

I'm still here....

School is kicking my butt. I have 28 kindergarteners who (as always) have come to me either knowing nothing (including the one who couldn't tell me her name!) or lots, with a few sprinkled in the middle with some average skill knowledge...and light years to go by May.

My feet have started swelling and I had to take off my engagement ring this week. I've been having Braxton-Hicks contractions on and off all day, every day. I've tried to up my water intake and sit down more...but I'm just not succeeding. Anytime I sit down, trouble starts up somewhere in my room. I go to the doctor Wednesday so hopefully we can talk about how many BH is too many, what I can do to make sure I make it to my planned stopping point of Oct1 etc. I'm also feeling STRA-ESSED about being ready for maternity leave--especially since the beginning of the year is so busy with day to day stuff that I can't even start getting lesson plans ready for a sub. AAK!

So, that's where I'm at.

Where things stand (written with my head in the sand)

Welcome ICLW'ers!! It's been awhile since I participated in one of these (life just seems to get in the way of me being a good participant). I've been loving reading the blogs I've been visiting and I hope you enjoy your time here. Visit the About Me tab to learn more about our journey---though here's a snapshot: We're loving up on our Little Monkey (15mos) given to us after our journey with IF, while unexpectedly expecting our little Pumpkin Seed in October.

So my commitment of blogging more now that school is out for the summer isn't quite going according to plan....though I blame the water heater flood, broken garage door and flurry of doctor appt's much more than my own laziness :-) However, I wanted to update you all on where thing are standing with LM's neck issue.

I've spent the better part of the week on the phone trying to gather insurance info, gather referrals, talking to Dr's, making appointments and, oh yes, listening to that lovely canned hold music. I've talked with his pedi on the phone (a first for me, having an actual doctor call me on her lunch break) and she supported our plan to get a pediatric ophthalmologist to look at his eyes and to get the ball rolling with our state's Early Intervention program First Steps to get him evaluated for OT/PT.

So, I set about making an appointment with one of the like 5 PO's in our state....long story short, we have an appointment in a month. While you gasp in the horror that these doctor's wouldn't immediately drop everything and clear their schedules to see my baby, let's note that the next best appointment....two months away. I'm sure my new administrators would've loved that---I imagine the conversation would've gone something like this: "I know that you're new and don't know me and that I'm about to have a baby and leave for nine weeks. Oh, and that I have to slip out a little early before contract time all the time because I have to go to the dr every week. Oh, and that it's like the second week of school---but I need to be gone because my baby has a crooked neck. Thanks!! Please don't hold it against me when you're doing our new evaluations that take attendance and student learning into our pay for next year!" So--in summary--I'll take waiting a month (partially because I have no choice but also because I don't think his eyes are the issue--though that would be the easy fix).

So then I embarked on the EI route---and while I got the ball rolling, I'm waiting for a phone call back to get the process going further. Once this happens, we'll have a meeting to talk about it all, schedule the eval, meet again after that to talk about what they found, then eventually start some therapy----hopefully before he turns three and is no longer eligible ;-)

This is where the issue "at home" arose. I'm content to wait out the phone call back and appointment (while we do some neck stretches we read about). TH on the other hand--accused me of sticking my head in the sand and not being willing to "move faster" because I wouldn't accept his "short" research on pediatric chiropractors and take LM to one because "they're like the same thing as OT's and PTs". Now, maybe it's my skepticism (and please please feel free to share with me great experiences you've had) but I wasn't ready to jump on making that appointment until I had time to read things about it and learn more. He's my baby and I'm not willing to just let anyone touch him--especially if the pedi didn't mention it as an option. Of course, this caused drama because TH didn't understand why I wasn't willing to "try everything" immediately. I tried explaining that I've very overwhelmed by this whole issue and am struggling with the idea of my baby being "broken" (yes, I know he's not, but I'm hormonal), while worrying that this baby is growing crooked in utero (and yes, I plan to talk with my OB about my crazy concerns). I just needed time to process and research.

We compromised when he found a place related to our local hospital that does the evaluations--though, we have no idea of the cost. They, of course, needed a real referral and our pedi doesn't work Thursday's, so I'm waiting for either a call back saying the script is ready or a call from my pedi to discuss it.
So---we wait. Again. But, the ball is rolling (several of them).

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go brush the sand out of my hair while I go try to deal with our new drama about daycare (more later), trying to find a name for PS (it's driving me crazy) and putting together some furniture/sorting through the delivery of girl clothes from my SIL. Oh, and not doing the work I swore I'd get done over the summer to help the school year start off easier :-)

Procrastination Nation

Ok...so maybe it's not the whole nation, but it's at least me. I was chatting with some colleagues on the last day of school about how things were going with choosing a name, our plans for the nursery etc. Now these are people know me well---and know that I'm a planner, a bit Type A and hate feeling behind or not organized.

So, needless to say, they were a bit surprised that we've basically made zero progress on baby things since finding out the gender. And, honestly, I am too. Within 48 hours of knowing what LM was, we had a name, I had ordered a crib and we were debating which dresser. Granted, I had more time to research and we hit up the baby shops early on in the pg.....so I get that there are valid reasons why we haven't made as much progress. But, I worry that it's symptomatic of the struggle I've had to really get "excited" about this pg.

Don't get me wrong---I'm thrilled that we're having a girl and the experience gets to be different. But, either way, we're not making progress. We're going round and round about the name....we're close but having difficulties over how feminine a name should be or whether she should have a more feminine option. And no, don't worry---we're not going for Maxwell. Jessica Simpson can have it all to herself. Nonetheless, we haven't decided and EVERYONE keeps asking.

I've looked at 1000's of cribs...all different styles and colors. Once I narrow it down, I/we change our minds about what we want. Or, we love something and CANNOT find other furniture that coordinates with it or is the same style. Eventually--it all just looks just alike. We don't have a "theme"....not that LM had one. We don't even know what we want to paint the room.....just that LM's moving to the bigger room and there's painting to be done to both.

I realize all this is trivial in the scheme of life....I just don't like that I cannot make a decision. I'm not the most decisive person in the world....unless I'm focused on a project or something...and then I can be. It just feels like work instead of fun exciting times. I wish I could pay someone to make the decisions for me. :-)

It's all about numbers

Before motherhood, my life was my life (basically). After LM arrived, I began to realize how my life was revolving around numbers--all kinds of numbers
  • Eating every two hours
  • Then, eating every three hours
  • Weight gain (him), weight loss (me)
  • Waking up every 3-4 hours all night long
  • When we switched to formula, the number of ounces, time between feeds and total bottles in a day.
  • The number of wet diapers in a day
  • The amount of ounces of whole milk in a day
  • The number of times he wakes up at night (STILL)
Then, it became almost solely focused around the number 2.
  • 2 lines on the pg test
  • 2 kids under 2
  • 2 carseats in a 2 small of a backseat
  • 2 cribs
  • 2 sets of diapers
  • 2 to give equal attention to
  • 2 kids to not screw up
And now, after today, I see that the number 3 is going to play a prominent role in things....as in 3 lines.

That's right....it's a girl :-)

I was shocked and surprised---totally convinced myself it was another boy. So now we'll have one of each. TH went grocery shopping while I did the daycare run and he came home with a cute little girl newborn outfit set. I'm hoping not having to "reuse" all the boy things (and getting to still have that new baby buying thrill) will help me feel more bonded with this pregnancy.

So now, we're rethinking names, looking at furniture and plowing ahead.

14 Months and 17 weeks

This will serve as a dual purpose post because...well....of course it's been well-proven that I'm a crappy updater :-)

LM is 14 months old...how'd we get here SO quickly!!!?!!? He's still not "walking walking". He takes series of steps (6-7) and then either tips over from trying to go too quickly or gives up and goes back to crawling. Of course, as the video below shows, why walk when it's much quicker to crawl?

He's eating up a storm...still a HUGE fan of lunch meat (turkey, salami, ham), cheese and strawberries. He eats most fruits but adores strawberries. He's beginning to insist on trying more and more of our food so I think he's expanding his world :-)  He's FINALLY drinking enough milk--up to 24oz in a day! After our battle to get going, it's amazing what the right sippy (N.uby Grip n Sip) will do. It's messier than the no-spill ones but he love love loves it. He still has a morning bottle and bedtime bottle (5oz) but we're about to drop the morning bottle. There's three more weeks until summer break and I'd like this transition to occur at daycare so that it happens during a structured, routine situation that he's used to. Our weekends are much more lax (especially with him sleeping in and changing his nap schedule) so I know that we'll be worse in the summer! Dropping his post-lunchtime bottle was nearly drama-less and we did it at daycare so hopefully it'll be the same. I'm a big nervous because he's not a big breakfast eater but I know he gets enough milk and nutrients so the bottle is just extra. I DO NOT have plans to drop the bedtime bottle until I don't have to work during the summer. I know it'll affect his sleep and we're finally getting back on track so I'm not messing with sleep!!! We'll try more brave attempts once summer gets going and I'm "caught up" (haha, over a years worth) of sleep!

He's playing up a storm---loves his books still. He's starting to "read" them to himself but he LOVES to pull them over to me and climb in my lap to be read to when he's sleepy. He's started climbing EVERYTHING....kitchen chairs, the stove, ottomans, baby gates, stairs etc....and won't climb down the correct way...only head first! This child knows no fear!!!

He's still pretty verbal--adding hot, danger, some random daycare names, basketball, monkey and duck to his mix. He sings (gibberish), rolls it up and claps when he hears music. He also dances to music!

We're still fighting the skin issues too...eczema will be the death of me. We just can't seem to get it under control---we take get it to go away, just not stay away. I'm not sure what to do next...I just don't want to go to steroid creams. I tried a new lotion (Neo.sporin Eczema) and it helps some, but we're going through it pretty quick and it's expensive so I may try something new next (we've already done aqua.phor, aveeno, renew etc).

Well...there's not much time left for a PS update....naptime is almost over. I'm getting bigger...50/50 maternity pants/regular pants. Most of my shirts still fit though. I find out what we're having on the 16th....eeek!! Still no real feeling what we're having...I feel the same except for a tiny bit of acne and more headaches (though I haven't been as good with the water as the first time) so it's probably going to swing boy.

Here, mostly.

Sorry for being so MIA.

LM is still not sleeping well at night....our best night in the last two weeks was him only waking up 2x. Well...last night he sttn but that has been the crazy fluke---and he didn't get an afternoon nap. I'm not sure what made it happen, but he slept 12 hours through. I'm hoping that it doesn't have to do with sleeping in until 830 the morning before...because we've got five more weeks of work before that can happen on a regular basis. And by then, I may have to be committed. The ever-so-anticipated 2nd tri energy boost has yet to arrive....I'm 15wk+1....surely it will get here soon! So, in the long-winded manner in which I arrived here, I've been exhausted and crashing to bed right after LM so I've been spending very little special time with my laptop. I've been keeping up with all of you on google reader...but it SUCKS to comment on. Unless there's a special way I haven't figured out besides opening each blog in the browser.  So, I'm here...and I'm keeping up with you :-) I promise.

Things are about the same here...LM is oh so close to walking (sleep regression?). He loves to monkey crawl to where he's going and stop a few feet short, stand up and wobble a few steps to his destination. He's strung together about 5 steps before toppling over. He's got the drive--just not the balance! He's got two new teeth (front, bottoms) and has been imitating a lot of words. He'll say "ot" (hot) and "dngr" (danger) while climbing the stove, he says "doki" (doggie) and crawls to his high chair when he wants to eat. He's also started crawling over to the kitchen cabinets where his bottles are kept and banging/crying when he wants his bedtime bottle. We've dropped his bottles down to 2 5oz'ers (one right before the am nap and bedtime). He did unexpectedly well at dropping the post-lunchtime bottle this past week so I'm hoping the early one goes well too. I'm just hesitant about dropping it as he doesn't really eat much for breakfast---mostly fruit and cheerios. Sometimes he'll do a thing of yogurt but overall, he's not much in to protein for breakfast---a few bites of eggs etc before refusing. So, I'm not sure if it's good to drop it yet. Any experiences with this? He's still hitting/biting etc for no real reason...and of course everything I read talks about what to do when they're doing it out of frustration (either because they don't get their way or can't express themselves) and that doesn't seem to be our case. He's really big on our reactions right now to LOTS of things but it's hard to just ignore things like hitting to get them to stop. All these things aside though...he's still this amazing little creature who amazes me daily with his actions---you should see him rolling a ball with his feet/hands up in the air--all the balance of a seal, my boy!! He's recently discovered his fine motor abilities and is rocking his gear toys and trying out a couple of puzzles.

Pumpkin Seed is still with us and growing well (well...based off my growing bump!). At my Ob appt this week, there was a strong heartbeat (quickly found too...phew!) and my blood pressure was good. I've lost pound...even though I'm eating like crazy. But, I tend to have this little person who likes to eat off my plate so perhaps my portions aren't what I think they are. That and running after him and a class of children may be having me burn more calories than expected. Either way--she told me to eat more....yes ma'am!! I went in to the appointment ready to beg for a 20wk u/s appointment for the "big" u/s since my next two appts. are 18wks and 22wks. Since I'll be out of town on vacation (oh please go better than last years) during week 22, I really was hoping she'd let me come in earlier (around 20wks) so I didn't have to wait until 23wks. But--because she rocks, as soon as she looked at the calendar (ok...I assume she looked at the calendar. It's all on her laptop but I imagine it was a calendar), she said ooh next appointment is u/s time! Yay!!! I'm super excited for getting to find out what we're having in just 4weeks!!!! I really thought I'd end up waiting until the end of May or worse, June. Though I haven't really given it too much thought yet--I need to research some more old wives tales in my ample free time to see how things are going compared to LM's---I'm going boy. This pregnancy has just seemed really really similar to LM's, except for a couple of things. But--that's another post :-)

That's all for now....I've got 5weeks left of school (the kiddos and I are both ready for summer vacation) and a ton to do. So, I better go get going while LM is napping.

Thanks for still reading!

Gumballs and stuff

I've got several bits of things that I want to share with you all, and I've been trying to find time to get them all in their own posts....but.....it's not happening. So, I will be giving you a bit of a "gumballs in a machine" post. A little variety to spice up your Thursday night.

  • Aggressive Much?
Little Monkey has always had a bit of a temper. But, it's usually housed itself in the form of opinions and squawks when he doesn't get what he wants at the correct speed. However, lately, he's started hitting. He does it for various reasons---when he's mad, tired, just because. There seems to be no rhyme or reason. Usually it's TH or myself that are the recipients of it...and it's usually when he's on our laps or being held. He doesn't seek us out just to hit, but rather does it as a reaction to something.

We've tried saying "no" "no hits" etc in our firm teacher voices. We've tried putting him down immediately after saying it. We've also tried ignoring it. However, the result of most of these is him smiling and laughing at us. I've got no idea on how to work this out....I lack the proper time for research. At least he's not really doing it at daycare. (knock on wood!).

Oh...and he's also started biting. Not out of anger, just crawling up and biting various body parts. But, he's also doing it to furniture, his fingers, toys etc so I assume it's related to teething. Though, our efforts to share with him that this isn't ok aren't any more successful than the hitting.

Is he just too young to get it? Or has he already decided he doesn't respect us and will be "that kid" in society?

  • Climbing
LM has taken to climbing. Now--our house is pretty much as baby-proofed as we can make it (with the exception of a couple corner guards and drawer latches in rooms he doesn't go in). However, it appears that the little man loves to climb. He's been trying to climb his baby gates--finding minute success with the cheap one we've been throwing up in the back sliding door to let in fresh air in this AWESOME March weather. I hadn't really worried much about it since he isn't tall enough to climb up on the furniture and the stairs are gated at top and bottom.
But then...because he loves to mess with me....he started doing this...

yeah....he uses the cooktop as a drum.

  • Dreams
The pregnancy dreams are out of control.....why didn't someone remind me about these??? I had forgotten what it's like to dream constantly ALL NIGHT LONG. It's exhausting. But--worse than that, I'm starting to wake up mid-dream and not realize it. I've woken TH up twice this week talking about things in my dream....including telling him to turn on the light because LM's hands were sticky and I needed to clean them off. I also whacked him good during one dream because I was dreaming he was falling off a cliff and I was "saving him". Yeah....he didn't appreciate my efforts :-) I've also been dreaming about work a lot---my favorite was parents calling to yell at me about RIDICULOUS things (although...that does happen in real life). My goodness...so tired. Luckily, LM is sleeping better at night, most nights not waking up (once he goes to sleep!).  I can't remember if this gets better or did I just get used to the dreams?
  • Coming out
We've come out about the pregnancy to our parents (ok..not my dad yet but I've got this master plan about a Big Brother shirt but LM WILL NOT smile/look at the camera/not move suddenly while wearing the shirt). But--after spring break next week, it's time to come out at work. I'll be 12 weeks this weekend and I'm ready (though I'll probably make sure I can hear the HB on the doppler). I'm not as excited about sharing the news at work this time....I'm not sure that my maternity leave has faded from their minds (there was some drama because my team is a bit dysfunctional without me there...no..seriously...I mean it. They just had a convo in front of me this week about I can't have another baby because there's too much drama when I'm not around to keep people in line....awkward.)

So....we'll see how it goes. Part of my lack of excitement probably stems from the emotional disconnect that I'm still feeling with PS. I'm hoping this gets better...I feel a bit in a funk about it. Pre-Post Partum Depression anyone? Maybe I'm just burnt out about work and need a break to just relax.

So, those are my updates. I swear I'm going to work on posting more. I just can't seem to find the time/energy after LM goes to bed. I read everything on my phone...it's just a POS and going from Google Reader to the browser to comment screws up too much. I wish I could do it directly. Someday. Someday.
